Who we are
Dino History World (dinohistory.com) is an independent, editorially-run reference site covering dinosaurs, paleontology, and fossil hunting. This policy explains what information we collect from visitors, why, and what choices you have. Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@dinohistory.com.
Information we collect
Server logs. Like virtually every website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information for every request -- IP address, browser type, the page requested, and timestamp -- for security and reliability purposes. We don't use this for tracking individuals.
Analytics, only if you choose to allow it. We may use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful and how the site is found. This only runs if you click "Accept all" on the cookie banner, or enable it under "Manage" -- it never loads by default. See our Cookie Policy for exactly what that sets and how to withdraw consent.
Anything you submit directly. We don't currently have user accounts, logins, or newsletter signups. If we add any of these in the future, this policy will be updated first to describe exactly what's collected and why before that feature goes live.
Advertising and affiliate links
We don't run display advertising today. If and when we do (for example, through an ad network), those partners may set their own cookies to serve and measure ads -- this policy and our cookie banner will be updated at that time to reflect it, and EU/UK visitors will be asked for consent before any ad cookie is set, same as analytics.
Some outbound links (for example, to field gear on Amazon) may be affiliate links, meaning we could earn a small commission if you make a purchase, at no extra cost to you. Clicking one of these takes you to the retailer's own site, where their privacy policy and cookies apply, not ours.
Your rights
If you're in the EU, UK, or a similar jurisdiction, you generally have the right to ask what data we hold about you, request a copy of it, ask us to correct or delete it, and withdraw any consent you've given (like analytics cookies) at any time. Since we don't currently collect personal data beyond standard server logs and optional analytics, there's rarely anything to request -- but if you'd like to ask, email hello@dinohistory.com and we'll respond.
Data storage
The site's content database is hosted on Supabase (backed by PostgreSQL) and images are served from Cloudflare R2. Neither stores personal visitor data -- they hold the dinosaur/paleontology reference content itself, not information about you.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if what we collect or how we use it changes -- especially once advertising or new features go live -- and update the "last updated" date above when we do.
